The GAIA Hotel in Basel is a sustainable, family-run hotel with exclusive organic food quality and regionally produced dishes. The hotel has been run by the same family for almost a century, committed to sustainability and working towards a zero-waste goal.
Why do you support the BEST ECONOMY forum 2021? The global economic model needs a new direction. The short-sighted focus on cheap production and consumption has created a linear economy in which products are used briefly and then disposed of as waste. There is no waste in nature; everything is recycled in a never-ending cycle of efficiency and practicality.
The “circular economy”, on the other hand, is an economic system in which no materials are wasted. Products are designed and built in such a way that they are part of a value-added network in which the reuse and reconditioning of the products ensures the continuous (re)use of resources.
What do you expect from the BEST ECONOMY forum 2021? With my participation, I would like to encourage entrepreneurs to do business in a way that is close to nature and sustainability. This path may sometimes be frustrating, but the advantages outweigh entrepreneurial and human benefits.
What are your long-term goals? To operate completely plastic-free. To implement organic products in the furnishing of hotel rooms such as bed linen, curtains, carpets, etc. And to help other hotel businesses to become more sustainable.
